What began as a mathematical exercise in discovering the true proportions of the solar system has grown into Guilt-Free Homeschooling’s first foray into the field of specialized curriculum. Carolyn Morrison originally collected these captivating facts and developed the activities as a way to show her own children (including daughter Jennifer Leonhard) just how vast our solar system really is. You can do each of the activities in-depth for a full semester of science or select only your students’ favorite activities for a short-term unit study. The Solar System Learning Lab has the sized-to-scale math conversions already done for you, so drawing models of the sun and planets in true perspective to each other’s sizes, or plotting planetary orbits in their relative distances from the sun are now simple activities that focus on learning! The Solar System Learning Lab also contains open-ended activities that can be repeated as often as desired (instead of once-and-done lessons) and research challenges for all ages. Blank pages are included as a collection point for charts, diagrams, pictures, stories, articles, and whatever else your students choose to add, allowing all of your space studies to be kept together in one convenient place. This intriguing book is the equivalent of a 200-page textbook—but with all of the twaddle already removed.
